🚀 NextGen HGV Launches Nationwide

We’re proud to announce that NextGen HGV Limited is now live across the UK, connecting learners with trusted HGV and PCV training providers nationwide. Our mission is simple: make it easier than ever to get your licence, launch your driving career, and access real job opportunities after training.

FAQs

1. How do I get an HGV licence in the UK?

To get an HGV licence, you’ll need to:

  1. Pass a driver medical and apply for a provisional licence.

  2. Complete your HGV theory and hazard perception tests.

  3. Take practical training with an accredited provider.

  4. Pass the driving test and complete Driver CPC training if required.

👉 At NextGen HGV, we guide you through each step, making the process simple and stress-free.

2. What is the difference between HGV Class 1 and Class 2?

  • HGV Class 2 (Category C): Allows you to drive rigid vehicles over 7.5 tonnes, perfect for local and regional delivery jobs.

  • HGV Class 1 (Category C+E): Allows you to drive articulated lorries with trailers, usually higher paid and suited for long-distance work.

Many drivers start with Class 2 before upgrading to Class 1, but we also offer combined training packages to save time and money.

3. How much does HGV training cost?

Costs vary depending on the course and location. On average:

  • Class 2 training starts from around £1,600–£2,500.

  • Class 1 training can range from £2,200–£2,900.

  • Combined packages are often cheaper than booking separately.

4. How long does it take to become an HGV driver?

Most drivers complete training in 4–6 weeks, depending on availability of medicals, theory tests, and practical test slots. With our combined packages, you can often fast-track the process.

5. Can I get finance to pay for my HGV course?

Yes. We work with finance providers to offer flexible payment plans, making it easier to spread the cost of training. Ask about finance options when you request your quote.

6. What is Driver CPC and do I need it?

Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) is a legal requirement for professional HGV and PCV drivers. You’ll need to:

  • Complete the initial CPC when first training.

  • Do 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years to stay compliant.

We offer CPC training alongside all HGV and PCV courses.

7. Will NextGen HGV help me find a job after training?

Yes ✅. Unlike many providers, we also connect you with haulage companies, logistics firms, and bus/coach operators across the UK. Our goal is to get you working as quickly as possible after you qualify.

8. Is there really a shortage of HGV drivers in the UK?

Yes. The UK logistics sector faces a significant driver shortage, with thousands of vacancies nationwide. This means newly qualified drivers are in high demand, with strong career and salary prospects.

9. Can I train for Class 1 from a car licence?

Absolutely. You can now train to become a Class 1 driver even without taking your Class 2 test, this was introduced recently in order to help with the shortage of drivers. The amount of hours will be increased for this and we are happy to discuss this with you if this is your preferred avenue.

10. Where can I train with NextGen HGV?

We work with accredited training providers nationwide, including all major UK cities such as London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, Nottingham, and more. No matter where you live, we’ll match you with a trusted local provider.
